Alana Dakos is coming to my shop … no, it’s more like ALANA DAKOS IS COMING TO MY SHOP!!!!!
Let me explain …
When I starting knitting about 6 years ago, I heard about this incredible place called Stitches West. It was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center every February and it was the wonderland of yarn and everything knitting. So, I went and I was not disappointed. As I wondered around lusting over every new yarn and accessory, I noticed a booth featuring patterns from the company, Never Not Knitting. I just happened to have finished a pair of clothes designed by Alana Dakos, owner of the company.
As I neared the booth, I noticed a line forming and wondered, could it be? And yes it was! Alana Dakos was there signing her patterns! I immediately purchased a new pattern and got in the back of the line. As I approached Alana, I went over in my head how cool I was going to be and I would say something intelligent like, I really admire you’re work. Instead what came out was “blah, blah, blah, and l love you so much! And will you take your picture with me?! “ She didn’t call security, she said, “sure” and we posed for a picture and I went home and immediately started work on my new Alana pattern.
Cut to 3 years later, when I bought the store, again at Stitches, again in line, again telling myself “say something cool”, and again blurting out, “I own a knit store! “Can you come?!” She said she was pretty booked and I should contact her company and maybe get on the waitlist.”
Cut to this year, I have now established myself as a regular customer with Never Not Knitting and at the end of every on-line order I add “the offer still stands for a visit.” So when Alana responded with, “is now a good time?” After standing up and yelling “Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God!” I responded “Yes, now would be fine.”
So this Saturday, April 25, Alana is coming to my shop. She will be here from 3 to 4pm for a booksigning, followed by a Meet and Greet reception, and then our store re-opens for an Alana Dakos Botannical Knits Trunkshow featuring Yarns by Madelinetosh.
When she gets here, I’m gonna be cool … probably not.
